Some Photos from the Old Days
Jonny O on Sparks Street ! Sparks Street

Back in the summer of 1991, just before Junkyard Symphony was created, Jonny O used to busk by himself on Spark Street. This picture was put on the cover of the Ottawa Citizen, with the caption "Jonny O's Junkyard Symphony", thus the birth of the name. The Amazing Lackey joined shortly afterwards.

Jonny O in Winterlude ! Winterlude

Junkyard Symphony has performed at Winterlude many times. The great thing about junk is that is doesn't get damaged by rain or snow. This picture was also in the Citizen in the City section. You can see the volunteer trying to chase jonny and play on a water jug.

JYS at Ottawa Jazzfest ! Jazz Fest

Junkyard Symphony has also performed at the Ottawa Jazz Fest many times. The great thing about junk is that is you can't put it into one musical category. This picture was also in the Citizen in the City section. You can see Jonny showing off. Lackey isn't to impressed.

Jonny O and Amazing Lackey drumming up a storm! Brandtford Busker Festival

Jonny and the Amazing Lackey are drumming up a storm to a captive audience! You can see all the different pieces of junk they are playing on ... pots and pans, water jugs and even a catalytic converter! It looks like somebody just kicked the Amazing Lackey in the butt...Don't ya think?

Early Years The Early Years

This picture, as well as the one up top was taken at the beginning of Junkyard Symphony, when there was only just the street show. In 1999 the Junkyard Jonny shows were formed, and Junkyard Jam a year later.

Junkyard Jonny juggling five-gallon water jugs! Junkyard Jonny Juggling

Demonstrating one of his many talents, Jonny is juggling the very junk he and the Amazing Lackey play on! Taking a look at the setup JYS uses to play on, you can see buckets, a big blue bath tub in the bottom right hand corner and tire rim with a big red strip!

Junkyard Jonny on the Ladder of Lunacy!! The "Ladder of Lunacy"

Once again Junkyard Jonny risks life and limb in an effort to make "Junk" sing. The Amazing Lackey, taking a more sensible approach, is drumming the "Junk" like no one else! The audience of children and adults alike are applauding and cheering Junkyard Symphony on!

Junkyard Jonny on a unicycle!! Jonny on a Unicycle

This picture was taken on the waterfront at the Halifax Busker Festival. Junkyard Symphony has done the festival four times already. It is by the best Busker Festival around.

The Junkyard Symphony Van - aka: The JYSmobile! JYSmobile #1
This is the first Junkyard Symphony Van 1993-1998. It was originally owned by Jonny's Grandpa, then was handed down to his aunt and then to Jonny. The Olsen family would pile into the van and go camping. It had a fridge, a stove, a bed and even a porta potty, and then it had some junk in it too.

The Junkyard Symphony Van - aka: JYSmobile! JYSmobile #2
1998-2002. Made in 1988, this van used to be a Bell repair van. It was helpful to have the flashing light on the top when the Junkmobile would drive through crowds at festivals. It was also helpful when JYS had to fix telephones. The ladder carrier was great for holding all their buckets.

The Junkyard Symphony Van - aka: JYSmobile! JYSmobile #3
2002-2008. Made in 1993, this van used to be a spy van for the Canadian Secret Inteligence Service. Inside it had padded leather lining and four captains chairs as well as a seperated cargo section. It also had some stylin' rims.

The JYSmobile 4! JYSmobile #4
2008-2010. This was a beutiful car but unfortunately met a terrible demise. While driving home on a snowy night in January the car hit some black ice and went head first into a tree. Jonny broke his ankle and wrist but at least he survived!

The JYSmobile 5! JYSmobile #5
2011-now. It's a sign of the times. When gas is expensive and contributes to global warming there is only one thing to do...get a smaller car. Luckily the equipment was redesigned to fit into a smaller space, but you would also be suprised just how much junk a Honda Fit can fit. The drum carrier on top also catches lots of attention and shows off the website.
